20% Time Project Proposal

          20% Time Project Proposal

Name: Rebecca Bauer

Project Title: Sign language

Project Start Date: November 7th

Project Completion Date: May 15th

Mentor’s Name: Mrs. Browning

Brief Description: For my 20% Time Project I decided to learn my passion, which is sign language. I will try to learn fluent sign language.

Overview of Project Proposal

1) Project Objective:  My project objectives are to learn fluent objectives and be able to have a conversation with someone who only speaks sign language and to be able to understand them.

2) Project Rationale: The reason I choose to learn how to do sign language was because I always thought it was super cool to learn sign language and not have to speak but actually talk to each other.

3) Project Steps:

·         Research my project

·         Research how to do the alphabet in sign language

·         Learn the alphabet

·         Research how to do simple words in sign language (ex: brother)

·         Learn simple words

·         Learn harder words

·         Research how to do sentences (ex: my dog ate my homework.)

·         Go to a different school with someone who speaks sign language and have a conversation with them

·         Go to a different school with someone who speaks sign language and read them a book

 4) Timeline of Activities:

·         November- Research sign language, learn the alphabet in sign language, and start learning how to do simple words in sign language

·         December- Continue learning how to do simple words, and start learning harder words

·         January- Continue learning harder words, and start learning various sentences

·         February- Continue learning various sentences

·         March- Start learning more complex sentences

·         April- Continue learning more complex sentences

·         May- Go to a different school and have a fluent conversation with someone who only speaks language

5) Available Human and Material Resources: Available humans are Mrs. Browning, Tammy Bauer and available materials are my computer

6) Possible Road Blocks: Some possible errors that I might run into with learning how to do sign language is not getting the right information on how to do a word or phrase, not learning quick enough, not understanding how to do a word or phrase, no help on how to do a word or phrase right, and at the end of the year not being able to do fluent sign language with a person that only speaks sign language.

7) Research Questions:

1.      How will sign language benefit me?

2.      How long do you think it will take me to learn sign language?

3.      On a scale from 1-10 how fluent will I be at sign language?

4.      How long could I keep a conversation with someone who only speaks sign language?
